How to Keep Skin Pores Clean
No amount of scrubbing will prevent clogged skin pores. That’s the
first thing you should know, because scrubbing can cause inflammation, which actually increases your risk of
pimples. So, don’t scrub. (See What Causes Clogged Skin
Pores? 8 Reasons)
The benefit of exfoliants is debatable. You should exfoliate no more than once a
month, if at all. If you do decide to exfoliate, plain table salt works as well as anything else. Just remember to
be gentle. If you are too rough, you can cause tiny scratches, which can become inflamed or infected.
**What Exfoliation Does Not
Do
The only thing that exfoliation does is help to remove dead skin cells, which are
sloughed off anyway. Washing gently with a clean cloth and warm (not hot or cold) water effectively removes the
dead cells. Exfoliation does not prevent clogged skin pores. It does not heal pimples or help to remove a clog that
has formed.
**What You Should Do -
Regularly
Now, you know what doesn’t work and what you shouldn’t do. What you should do is
use a cleansing facial mask containing a clay extract called kaolin every two weeks.
**Ingredients That Work – Safely &
Effectively
Kaolin has the ability to
absorb particles of dirt that can clog a pore. It absorbs excessive sebum and the components of perspiration. The
most effective cleansing facial mask is one that contains kaolin, another clay extract called bentone gel, a
natural anti-inflammatory called allantoin, a natural anti-bacterial agent called active manuka honey and a
moisturizer called macadamia oil.
Kaolin and bentone
gel do most of the work. Allantoin addresses the issue of
inflammation, which as you know narrows the pore and increases the risk of clogging.
Active manuka honey addresses the
issue of bacterial overgrowth. Both it and allantoin will help to heal existing pimples and prevent new ones from
forming.
Macadamia oil is a necessary
ingredient for several reasons. If a cleansing facial mask does not contain a non-comedogenic moisturizer, the clay
extracts will dry out quickly and can actually cause clogged skin pores.
** How to Clean Skin
Pores
Macadamia oil and active manuka honey have antioxidant activity. Oxidation is
involved in the formation of blackheads and is a primary cause of facial aging.
You should use the deep cleansing facial mask every two weeks. Using it too often
could cause excessive dryness, which increases the risk of wrinkling and other visible signs of aging.
You won’t have to worry too much about clogged skin pores if you follow that
routine. Kaolin will gently pull all kinds of material out of a pore, including fragments of dead cells. But, you
will still need to be careful about the other cosmetics you use on a daily basis.
**Moisturize With NON – Petroleum Based
Ingredients
Everyone should use a moisturizer after they wash their face. But, most
moisturizers (especially the cheap ones) contain comedogenic ingredients. Mineral oil, paraffin and petrolatum
contribute to clogging. Moisturizers containing plant-based oils like macadamia will not.
Macadamia is a little too rich to use as a daily moisturizer. I recommend a
day cream women containing grape seed oil and other nourishing ingredients. Also a
Facial Fluid is very effective for men
On the weeks you are not using the deep cleansing facial mask to prevent or help
heal clogged skin pores; you might consider a deep moisturizing one. It will correct and prevent
dryness.
